Description

This focaccia bread is a delightful and flavorful addition to any meal, perfect for dipping or enjoying on its own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast or active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil, to drizzle onto the pan
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt flakes or kosher salt
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chopped rosemary
  • 1 tablespoon chopped oregano

Instructions

  1. Drizzle about 2 tablespoons of olive oil into a 9″ x 13″ (22cm x 33cm) baking pan to prevent sticking and to add flavor to the crust.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, olive oil, salt, all-purpose flour, and instant or active dry yeast. Beat the sticky batter at high speed with an electric mixer for 60 seconds to develop the dough and incorporate air.
  3. Scoop the sticky dough into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly. Cover the pan with a clean towel or plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for 60 minutes until it becomes puffy and slightly doubled in size. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  4. Gently press your index finger repeatedly into the dough’s surface to create characteristic dimples all over. Drizzle lightly with olive oil, then sprinkle evenly with sea salt flakes, minced garlic, chopped rosemary, and chopped oregano.
  5. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 30 minutes until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  6. Remove the focaccia from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes. Then turn it out onto a cooling rack and cut into pieces. Serve warm or at room temperature as a delicious accompaniment to meals or on its own.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can add more herbs or spices to the dough.
  • Ensure the water is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
