Description

Deliciously nutty brown butter chocolate chip cookies that are perfectly soft and chewy!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk, at room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • more flaky sea salt for sprinkling
  • 1 1/4 cups semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Place the butter in a small saucepan and set over medium low heat. Stir and scrape the butter from the bottom and sides of the pan every 10 to 15 seconds. Cook until the butter is golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  2. Allow the butter to cool in the saucepan for about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the brown butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar. Mix together. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla and mix well.
  4. Add in the flour, baking soda, and salt, folding until no streaks of flour remain.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips until evenly distributed. Cover the bowl and place it in the fridge to chill for at least 1 hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  7. Remove the dough from the fridge and allow it to soften at room temperature for about 20 minutes.
  8. Use a 1 ½ ounce cookie scoop to portion out equal amounts of dough, placing them on the prepared baking sheets 2 inches apart.
  9. Bake until cookies are light golden brown around the edges, about 12 to 13 minutes. Remove and sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
  10. Allow the cookies to cool slightly on the baking sheet before serving.

Notes

  • Chill the dough for best results.
  • Feel free to use chopped chocolate instead of chips for a rustic look.
