- 1 cup (240ml) whole milk (or non-dairy alternative)
- 2 tablespoons (25g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon (5g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup (120ml) brewed espresso or strong coffee
- 1/4 teaspoon mint extract (or half a small crushed peppermint candy cane, or 1 tablespoon peppermint syrup)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Whipped cream for topping
- Chocolate shavings for topping
Instructions
- In a small saucepan, combine milk, cocoa powder, and sugar. Heat over medium-low heat, whisking continuously, until small bubbles form around the edges and sugar is fully dissolved. Do not boil vigorously. If using a crushed candy cane, add it now to dissolve.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat. Stir in the brewed espresso (or strong coffee), mint extract, and vanilla extract. Whisk well to combine all ingredients thoroughly.
- Pour the mixture into a mug. Top generously with whipped cream and garnish with chocolate shavings. Serve immediately and enjoy your homemade Peppermint Mocha.
