Delicious baked oysters topped with a creamy miso mayo sauce, perfect as an appetizer or a main dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 12 pieces Fresh Oysters
- 1/2 cup Japanese Mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons Miso Paste
- 1 tablespoon Mirin
- 1 teaspoon Hot Sauce
- 1 tablespoon Fresh Lemon Juice
- 2 cups Fresh Spinach
- 1 cup Cheddar or Mozzarella Cheese (shredded)
Instructions
- Preheat your broiler or BBQ to high heat, around 500°F (260°C). Allow about 10 minutes for the broiler to fully heat up.
- Prepare your oyster shells or ramekins on a baking sheet. Fill with coarse salt to stabilize the oysters.
- In a mixing bowl, combine Japanese mayonnaise with miso paste, stirring until smooth. Blend in mirin, hot sauce, and lemon juice.
- Evenly distribute the fresh spinach among the oyster shells or ramekins.
- Carefully place the oysters on top of the spinach.
- Generously spoon about 1 tablespoon of the creamy miso mayo sauce over each oyster. Sprinkle cheese on top.
- Broil for 5–8 minutes, until the cheese is bubbling and golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve warm, alongside a crisp salad or crusty bread.
Notes
- Substitute fresh oysters with any large oysters available.
- For regular mayo, increase lemon juice to balance flavor.
- Light miso provides a milder taste; darker varieties for deeper flavor.
- Do not substitute mirin for an authentic flavor experience.
- Use any preferred brand of hot sauce, adjust to suit your spice preference.
- Fresh lemon juice is recommended for the best flavor.
- Can substitute spinach with kale or another leafy green.
- Omit cheese for a dairy-free version.
