Description
A delicious and hearty gourmet steak and cheese sandwich made with ribeye steak, caramelized onions, and provolone cheese.

- 8 oz ribeye steak, thinly sliced
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 4 oz provolone cheese, sliced
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (optional for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Onions:
- In a pan over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter.
- Add the sliced onions and cook slowly, stirring occasionally until they are caramelized (about 15-20 minutes).
- Add balsamic vinegar and a pinch of salt, stir well, and set aside.
- Cook the Steak:
- In the same pan, add the remaining olive oil.
- Increase heat to medium-high and add the steak slices, seasoning with salt and pepper.
- Cook for about 2-3 minutes until the steak is just cooked through.
- Assemble the Sandwich:
- Butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place one slice of bread, buttered side down, on a skillet over medium heat.
- Layer with cheese, cooked steak, caramelized onions, and another layer of cheese.
- Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.
- Grill the Sandwich:
- Grill the sandwich, pressing slightly, until golden brown on both sides and the cheese is melted (about 3-4 minutes per side).
Notes
- For a more flavorful steak, marinate the slices in a bit of olive oil, garlic, and rosemary for 30 minutes before cooking.
- Use a panini press for easier grilling and even heat distribution.
- Substitute provolone with other melting cheeses like mozzarella or American if desired.
- Serve with a side of pickles or a fresh salad for added crunch and freshness.
