Description

This gourmet Philly cheesesteak sandwich features tender ribeye steak, melted provolone cheese, and sautéed vegetables, all served in toasted hoagie rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ribeye steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 large hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup provolone cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Rolls: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice the hoagie rolls lengthwise and lightly butter the insides. Place them in the oven for about 5 minutes to toast until lightly golden. Remove and set aside.
  2. Cook the Vegetables: In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until the onions are translucent and peppers are tender, about 5-7 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper, then transfer the mixture to a plate.
  3. Cook the Steak: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil. Increase the heat to high. Add the thinly sliced ribeye steak in batches to ensure even cooking. Cook until browned, about 2-3 minutes per side. Return the vegetable mixture to the skillet and mix well with the steak.
  4. Melting the Cheese: Reduce the heat to low and evenly distribute the shredded provolone cheese over the steak and vegetables. Cover the skillet to allow the cheese to melt, about 2 minutes.
  5. Assemble the Sandwich: Once the cheese is melted, remove the mixture from the skillet using a spatula and fill the toasted hoagie rolls generously. Sprinkle with sesame seeds as garnish.

Notes

  • For a more tender steak, freeze the ribeye for about 30 minutes before slicing to allow for thinner cuts.
  • You can substitute the provolone cheese with Cheese Whiz for a more traditional taste.
  • To add a bit of heat, consider adding sliced jalapeños to the vegetable mixture.
  • Ensure the cheese covers the steak and vegetables completely for the best melt and flavor incorporation.
