Description

Deliciously festive chocolate dipped candy apples perfect for any holiday celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 6 pretzel rods or wooden sticks
  • 12 oz (340g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 12 oz (340g) white chocolate chips
  • 1 cup red candy coating (or red sugar crystals)
  • 1/2 cup crushed sandwich cookies (like Oreos)
  • 1/2 cup green candy-coated chocolates (like M&Ms)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional, for smoother chocolate)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Remove any stems and insert a pretzel rod or wooden stick into the top of each apple.
  2. Melt the Semi-Sweet Chocolate: In a microwave-safe bowl, combine the semi-sweet chocolate chips with half a tablespoon of coconut oil. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  3. Dip the Apples: Dip each apple into the melted chocolate, turning to coat completely. Let the excess drip off.
  4. Coat with Red Candy: Immediately roll or sprinkle the chocolate-coated apples with red candy coating or sugar crystals, covering the entire surface.
  5. Melt the White Chocolate: In a separate bowl, melt the white chocolate chips with the remaining half tablespoon of coconut oil in the microwave, following the same method.
  6. Decorate with Toppings: Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the top of each apple to create a dripping effect. While the white chocolate is still soft, sprinkle crushed cookies and green candy-coated chocolates on top for a festive look.
  7. Set the Apples: Place the decorated apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet and allow them to set at room temperature, or refrigerate for quicker results.

Notes

  • Use fresh and firm apples to ensure they hold up under the weight of the chocolate.
  • Adjust the amount of coconut oil for a thinner or thicker chocolate coating.
  • Experiment with different colors and types of candy toppings to match specific festive themes or personal preferences.
  • Make sure the apples are completely dry before dipping to ensure the chocolate adheres well.
  • Keep apples refrigerated for longer storage, but serve at room temperature for best texture.
